What are the Advantages of No Touch Laser?

In traditional laser treatments that have long been used to get rid of glasses and contact lenses, the eye should be “touched”. This can cause concerns in patients who choose to have traditional laser surgery.  The new laser method called the TransPRK or No Touch Laser technique eliminates this concern. In this method, there is no contact with the laser device. It is sufficient for the patient to look at a distant light source for several seconds to complete the treatment. In classical treatment methods, the corneal tissue in the eye is cut with a laser. Though in No Touch Laser, it is sufficient to look at the distant light source for less than 50 seconds. The No Touch Laser technique can be applied in the treatment of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. Therefore both the far-sighted and short-sighted patients are candidates for the TransPRK.

The No Touch Laser treatment is done only with anesthetic drops, and the patient does not feel any pain during the operation. There is no contact of the eye with any device and the treatment is performed directly with the rays emitted from the laser device. The treatment can be performed in both eyes during the same operation. The eyes do not need to be covered and the patient can go home with both eyes open after the No Touch Laser operation.  There might be some complains within the first 3 days about a burning sensation in the eyes, flushings, disturbing lights, and/or blurriness on small-sized texts while watching TV.  Even so, the patient can start working on the computer and driving a car no later than four days after the treatment.
