How to Whiten Composite Veneers?

In the world we live in, the importance of physical appearance and aesthetic concerns is indisputable. A decent appearance provides many advantages in both social and business life. When we go to a job interview, need to make a presentation at an important meeting, or go on a date, one of the first things everyone looks at is our teeth; so beautiful teeth are quite important for a good first impression. Composite veneers are one of the most preferred dental procedures by those who want whiter and more beautiful teeth.

What Are Composite Veneers?

Veneers are thin layers made of composite resin, customized for each patient's tooth size. In addition to providing brighter and whiter teeth, veneers are also used to close the gaps in patients with missing teeth.

Due to their structure, veneers do not change their color as easily as natural teeth and they can be used for 5-10 years as long as they are well cared for. So what can you do to keep your composite veneers clean and white for so long?

First, remember that it is much easier to prevent this before your veneers turn yellow or stain than to try to whiten them later. The first thing you need to do for this is to use a soft-bristled toothbrush. Hard-bristled toothbrushes can damage both the gums and the surface of the veneers. You should not forget to brush your teeth 3 times a day. Be sure to brush your teeth thoroughly, especially after drinking sugary foods, acidic beverages, or tea and coffee. You will ensure that the veneers retain their whiteness for a longer period if you use whitening products like toothpaste. You can also use whitening mouthwash regularly.

Besides regular and careful dental care, the best thing you can do to prevent staining teeth is to avoid smoking. Smoking is the biggest enemy of white teeth. You should also limit yourself to coffee and tea. Make sure to drink no more than two cups of tea/coffee a day. Brush your teeth immediately after coffee and tea consumption. Avoiding sugary foods and acidic beverages will also keep veneers white for longer. Take care to drink acidic drinks with a straw. This will at least protect the outer surface of the veneers.

Do not forget to have your teeth professionally cleaned by your dentist twice a year if you want to use composite veneers for a longer time. Even if you pay attention to all of this, composite veneers will wear out a little in 5-6 years and will not stay as shiny or white as when you first had them done. Unfortunately, the teeth whitening methods you can try at home do not work on composite resin veneers. If you need it, you should visit your dentist instead of doing something for your teeth yourself.
