Recovery after Breast Reduction Surgery

Recovery after Breast Reduction Surgery

You may think that women have always dreamed of having large breasts. Indeed, many women want to have fuller and larger breasts, however, for some women, the situation is just the opposite. Having breasts that are larger than normal can make women’s daily lives and activities more difficult. It may cause rashes, wounds, infection, and pain. Fortunately, modern plastic surgery offers a great solution for the women suffering from this problem: breast reduction surgery.

You can get breasts of the size you want, thanks to the breast reduction surgery. However, a long and challenging way awaits you before getting these results. You need to prepare yourself for this and be willing to go through the whole process. Do not forget that you are doing this to feel better about yourself while also improving your quality of life.

First of all, you will be kept under monitoring by us until you completely come out of the general anesthesia. You will be taken to your recovery room then where our nurses will monitor your heart rate, breathing, and other vital signals. You will be given additional painkillers according to your pain threshold if necessary. Patients are discharged within a day if no complications are encountered.

It is hard to say how long it will take you to recover from breast reduction surgery since it may differ for each patient. Although every patient responds differently to the procedure, you will need between two weeks to six weeks to be fully recovered. You should take at least one week off from the work and spend this time resting.

We will give you medication instructions and answer any questions you may have before you are discharged. Remember that you can consult us on everything during your healing process and we are always here to help.

You will wear a postoperative bra and have bandages that cover your incisions after the surgery. Your breasts may be a little swollen for the first days but it will reduce day after day. Your body will start the healing process slowly and during this period all you need to do is rest. If you have a desk job you will be allowed to return to your job within a week, however, plenty of strenuous activities will be restricted still.

Breast reduction surgery is not a simple operation and you need to expect some surgical pain afterward. But don’t be afraid, most patients report that the pain is surprisingly less than they expected. If you are smoking, please be aware that smoking may negatively affect your healing process. Therefore, you should stay away for several more weeks from your smoking habit that you quitted before the surgery.

Even though you will spend your first week resting well and taking the necessary precautions, it doesn’t mean you have to stay in the bed the whole time. Indeed, we recommend our patients to do light activities that will not tire them such as taking small walks.

You will witness the magnificent changes in your breasts and start to benefit from the surgery such as decreased neck and should pain and better fitting clothes. You should still have the patience for a little longer and wear soft undergarments and looser clothing until your incisions are fully healed. It will take approximately one year for the final results of the operation to be achieved and the incisions to heal completely and become unnoticeable.
