Rhinoplasty and Care

Apart from the aesthetic shape, it adds to the person’s image, the nose is a very functional structure. A healthy nose is essential for healthy breathing. It cleans the inhaled air from particles, gives a certain flow shape, warms and moisturizes it. This prevents the lungs from drying out. When air enters through the nostrils, it is primarily pre-filtered by the hairs. In addition to all these, it hosts the nerves that provide smell while balancing the pressure inside the skull. The nose is responsible for balancing the pressure of the skull. In line with all this information, it is understood how important the nose job is. In light of this information, all operations on the nose are planned by plastic surgeons before surgery. For this reason, the results of rhinoplasty performed by plastic surgeons are almost perfect. The goal is not just a good looking nose. Our surgeries aim to shape the nose after providing the natural function of the nose. For this reason, most of the operation time is reserved for the correction of the function.

In rhinoplasty, first of all, a detailed examination, listening to and determining the patient’s complaints and demands, and if necessary, advanced examinations such as CT (tomography) should be made to decide the rhinoplasty surgery plan together with the patient. While the nose is reshaped or made to gain its function, the procedure starts with the correction of the bones and cartilages that make up the skeleton of the nose. For this, the height of the nose can be increased by incisions in bones and cartilages, implants as much as possible, or the cartilage grafting method. Which method will be chosen depends on the patient’s needs and nose structure.

Rhinoplasty is performed under anesthesia. In the rhinoplasty, instead of non-stretching threads in the skin sutures, surgical threads that stretch with edema preventing the tissue from being cut and returning to their previous state due to their elastic structure after the edema has passed are used. Depending on the condition of the tissues, the appropriate one among the gypsum, aluminum, thermoplastic or cellulosic splints is preferred. The condition of your nose and the medical care you will receive will affect the rhinoplasty cost. Patients are kept under observation in the hospital for one day after the rhinoplasty and discharged.

Although ice, cold application, and similar measures are not taken, there is no excessive bruising. After a week, the follow-up of the patient, whose nose splint, tampon, and sutures are removed, begins. After the operation, the patient is recommended not to go out in the sun and not to wear glasses for two months. The rhinoplasty is a common cosmetic outpatient procedure. But rhinoplasty recovery can take up to a year.

How is rhinoplasty performed?

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthetic. While you are asleep, the skin of your nose is lifted away from the cartilage and bony skeleton so that the cartilage and bone can be reshaped. Rhinoplasty may also include removing a prominent hump, if present. After the wanted reshape, the nose is stitched and a splint applied inside. Temporary silicon tubes may be placed inside the nose to support healing. Rhinoplasty surgery generally takes 1-2 hours.
